Description

Finely ground turquoise stone for inlay in jewelry and woodwork. Product is shipped in small tin container. Total 1 ounce (28 grams) of stone. Use to inlay in wood projects in 5 easy steps: 1. Use a chisel, knife, or dremel tool to widen any hairline cracks. This is because even a finely powdered stone may not be able to fill the smallest of voids. Widen them to make the process easier. 2. Apply stone into the void. Work the stone into the area and tap the piece of wood so that the stone settles into place 3. Apply cyanoacrylate (CA glue) over the area. Let it dry completely. 4. Sand the inlay area smooth with coarse 80 or 100 grit sand paper. Sometimes the rough-sanding process reveals new voids or air pockets. Repeat steps 1 through 6 as needed. 5. When the area is smooth and free of voids, final sand and finish the wood product as usual.

This stuff is awesome! You may not think an ounce is much but a little goes a long way. I used this along with some bigger scraps of turquoise I got at a swap meet. I found the smaller scraps that would sit mostly flush then sprinkled this around with a spoon. This was much easier to fill in all the intricate inlays I had carved out with a dremel, and your project will look great even if you use this product by itself. I used mostly this product (as opposed to the bigger scraps) and still have well over half the jar left. I set it with superglue and sanded with no problem. I will say I used a LOT more superglue than I expected, and had to rummage through the closet to find some fingernail glue to finish, but this was my first time trying an inlay. I think this is real turquoise because when I sanded it, it stayed perfectly turquoise and didn’t turn chalky whatsoever. For reference, this wood slice is about 18” wide. The 16” hairpin legs are also from amazon. Sanded to 120 grit. Finish is 2 coats of oil based polyurethane.
